The world is back in focus

I guess like most people about to undergo cataract surgery I was just a little trepidatious as I walked into Moorfields back in January. I was told the operation on both eyes would be relatively simple and completely painless but even so, lurking in the brain were fears of lasers, scalpels and who knew what other implements of torture all coming for my eyeballs. When I walked out again a couple of hours later, the world was transformed. Everything was brighter and shinier and the next morning when I opened the paper I could read faultlessly without glasses for the first time in 15 years. So what about the “horrors” of the operation? I should have believed what I had been told by Mr Deshmukh: there was no pain, no discomfort even, just 40 minutes or so lying on my back while fuzzy images of him and his team transformed my life. A month later I am only just starting to get a little blase about that transformation. The world is back in focus and I cannot thank Mr Deshmukh enough nor praise him sufficiently for his skill and expertise.
