Cataract OR lens exchange is an outpatient procedure, it is an invasive surgery that involves making an incision in the eye. Any foreign body entering it will cause an infection – for eg: a speck of dust, or bacteria. Recovery post cataract surgery is easy, all you need to do is follow the post-operative care given by Mr. Deshmukh.

All eye makeup should be avoided for 4 weeks. This includes eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, and also eye creams and serums.

Care should be taken when applying makeup to the rest of the face as minute particles may enter the incision area. Brushes and sponges used to apply makeup are notoriously famous for hoarding bacteria and may increase the risk of infection. If you use makeup for the rest of the face, care should be taken to keep it away from the eye and the area surrounding it.

Even though the generally recommended period to stay away from eye makeup is 4 weeks, it is always a good practice to check with Mr. Deshmukh’s team before using it as recovery time differs from person to person and case to case.

Once approved, when you do start using makeup, avoid using waterproof eyeliner and mascara as they are harder to remove and may put unnecessary strain on the eye.

It is recommended to wait for at least 2 months before using fake eyelashes.

Always a good idea to buy new makeup and applicators to reduce the risk of cross-contamination leading to infection.

Be gentle when removing eye makeup. Do not put pressure on the eye or rub it too much.

Mr. Deshmukh and his team are always available. Consult with them before you begin to use makeup. If anything causes discomfort, stop use immediately and inform them for further guidance.
